New Roadmap for osCommerce development

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

Jus been reading Harald Ponce de Leon’s blog and the outline for the new 3.0 alpha Roadmap for osCommerce. An interesting outline, it could be some time before the community get to see the revamped code. Some major upgrades are taking place it seems. Community Sponsors will be the only people able to test the alpha code.

PKD – the VALIS trilogy

Monday, February 20th, 2006

I completed reading ‘VALIS’, a novel by SCI-FI author, Philip K. Dick

What a crazy read, and i use the term crazy with the utmost respect. I resonated with this story of spiritual, schizophrenia, intrigue, mystery, fear, love, excess and delusion.

I found it quite difficult to begin with, but as I got further in, the story unfolded. After a bit of googling and research, it seems that the story is sem-autobiographical, and with that knowledge, I feel humbled and in awe of Philip K. Dick’s writing prowess.

Maybe we all need a ZEBRA moment to set us free . . . ?

Check out whats new on the PKD scanner:
Another new film based on one of Dick’s stories
A Scanner Darkly. Seems this one will be *very* interesting to watch.

Having only read The Man in the High Castle, and a short story of his whose title eludes me at this time. I recommend you check out as much of his as you can … unique writing. I love it, I can’t wait to start on more, though I think I will need a bit of a break before I can continue with the VALIS trilogy.

osCommerce and SSL directory setup on PLESK servers

Monday, February 20th, 2006

Its taken me a while to figure this out. But the way to get this set up is:

1) symlink your httpsdocs folder to your httpdocs
2) chown the symlink to you user and folder group
3) touch a vhost_ssl.conf file
4) I used vi, but any editor will do, copy the contents of your vhost.conf data into the vhost_ssl.conf file

including the following:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteMap lowercase int:tolower
RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} ^80$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.DOMAIN_NAME$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://www.DOMAIN_NAME [L,P]

…your contents from vhost.conf…

5) Change any reference of httpdocs in the line to httpsdocs

(this will ensure all openbase_dir and includes are handled correctly. The rewrite above will make sure that any https connection will rewrite non-https requestes to https requests.

6) Make the standard changes to your config files to enable and include https capability.

7) run

/usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/websrvmng –reconfigure-vhost –vhost-name=DOMAIN_NAME

8) restart apache

9) you should be up and running.

Veggie Vision

Saturday, February 18th, 2006

Some of you know I work on the Veggie Vision website. Well, I finally got the blog setup for Karin Ridgers, owner and head of Veggie Vision.

Pretty cool things happening over there I hope, the site is due for some major overhaul, with a lot of structural and graphical updates. I think the fisrt things we’ll visually see is are new graphics and a lot of CSS. Streaming Media heaven with a splash of Tofu and Spice ;)

English Language with English Subtitles

A friend of mine, Tim Plester invited me along to his debut film shoot as a director a couple of weeks back, it was fun to be back on set. I’ve been along to two film shoots of his, where his role has been the writer and actor. These two shorts were entitled “Ant Muzak”, a comedy pop short and “Blakes Juntion 7″ a comedy sci-fi short. In both films I offerred my services as an extra, and enjyed the team experience of being on long shoots.

Well I took some stereo photographs and filmed some “behind the scenes” footage for Tim. I’ll see if I can post up some of the stereo images later. I’ve just been a bit tied up with Spirit Quest work since I submitted my dreaded taxes last month.

Check out his blog, and Image Gallery, a lot to see from his varied and very interesting carreer.

I am a semi-regular member of the phpLondon user group. I recently recorded the first UK conference organised by the group on Video and Audio last Friday. There were some sound issues with the University Sound system which will present a couple of problems in cleaining up the soud .. Lots of Hum to cancel out.

I also had the opportunity to shoot some stills of the event using a new Canon 350D (D-SLR)
